TRUST-Lecture: Prof. Amrita Narlikar (GIGA Hamburg): “How not to negotiate: The case of trade multilateralism”

The TRUST Lecture series, organized this summer term in cooperation with the research focus group on Sustainable Globalization from the Faculty of Economics and Management, started with a very stimulating talk by Prof. Dr. Amrita Narlikar and a lively discussion on “How not to negotiate: The case of trade multilateralism”. Prof. Narlikar is the President of the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg and Professor of International Relations. She provided some deep insights and concrete policy implications on how to improve the global trade architecture around the WTO. A refocus of the WTO on ethics and power relations instead of markets is needed along with an ambitious reboot of structures and processes as well as cross-disciplinary research.

The next online presentation will be given on the 19th of July by Dr. Fatima Denton, Director of United Nations University (UNU) Institute for Natural Resources on the topic: “More than just fuel - stranded assets and equity in the context of a just energy transition?”
